Last weekend to catch current exhibitions at Spike Island

Two exhibitions close this weekend at the Spike Island gallery in Bristol, including the group exhibition Invocations of the Blank Page, curated by Frances Loeffler and Maelfa, featuring multi-media artist Sean Edwards.

Invocations of the Blank Page features work from Anna Molska, Ryan Gander, Martin Creed, Gareth Long, Vlatka Horvat and Ignacio Uriarte.

This exhibition moves between the freefall lightness of thought and the contradictory weight of words as they form on the page. The works included gesture toward or take the form of blank sheets of paper: creased and folded, falling through space, or traversed by the body.

The central piece of Maelfa is a slow paced, silent video that touches upon a sense of poignancy associated with disappearing communities and failed utopian aspirations. The video will be accompanied by an installation of photographs, prints, models and other ephemera relating to the project, specially commissioned for Spike Island’s central galleries.

Maelfa expands the artist’s interventions into everyday systems and is the artist’s first major UK solo show in a public space.

Both exhibitions are running until 10th April at Spike Island. More information can be found here.
