The Bluecoat, a former school, was first inhabited by artists in 1906, making it the country’s longest running arts centre. It has recently been redeveloped, reopening in 2008 with brand new gallery spaces.
With a spirit of experimentalism and a keen support for emerging artists it showcases and nurtures talent across all creative disciplines: visual arts, live art and performing arts. It also provides studio space for young artists and runs an outreach and education programme.
